WWTC Offers Cooperative Agreements With Local Colleges
Increasing opportunities for students to advance in their chosen career areas has always been a goal of Wes Watkins Technology Center. When you increase opportunity plus provide an avenue for students and parents to save time and money, it becomes a “GRAND” opportunity, which has many people taking a closer look at their options at WWTC.
The administration and the counselor at WWTC recently completed a study which compared WWTC’s alliance cost to OSU/Okmulgee and Seminole State College. The study concluded that students who take advantage of WWTC’s cooperative alliance agreements with colleges can save an extensive amount of money. Students are charged only $8 per credit hour through our alliance agreement compared to $105.50 which is the average cost per credit hour at community colleges. The cooperative efforts are available for students to enhance their education and their employment opportunities and students are able to shorten the time required to complete an associates degree.
A Fee Waiver Program makes the college credits completely free to students who qualify. Students who meet the criteria qualify to have their fees waived and do not have to pay the $8 per hour fee.
WWTC high school and adult students may both earn college credits through cooperative alliance agreements with Seminole State College and OSU-Okmulgee. A cooperative agreement is also available through Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. The agreements which are approved by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education allows students to receive college credit for their classes at WWTC.
Six to 49 credit hours may be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science degree from OSU/Okmulgee. Credit is available in the areas of Information Technology, Office Information Systems, Engineering Technologies and Construction Technologies. WWTC approved programs for OSU/Okmulgee include Construction Trades Technology, Computerized Information Technology (CIT)/Multimedia and Web Services, CIT/Office Management and Accounting, Computer Repair & Networking, and Medical Office Technology.
WWTC students can also receive college credits toward Associate of Applied Science degrees from Seminole State College. WWTC approved programs for SSC include Computerized Information Technology/Multimedia and Web Services, CIT/Office Management and Accounting, Medical Office Technology, Practical Nursing, and Surgical Technology programs.
Another cooperative agreement, with Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, allows students to receive college credits in any of WWTC’s full time programs. Up to 64 credit hours in communications, math, computer science, humanities, business management and other approved vocational technical courses may be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science degree at CCC. WWTC approved programs for CCC include Computerized Information Technology (CIT)/Multimedia and Web Services, CIT/Office Management and Accounting, Computer Repair & Networking, Construction Trades Technology, Health Careers Certification, Medical Office Technology, Practical Nursing, Service Careers Technology and Surgical Technology programs. The CCC agreement provides that students must complete a vocational/technical program at WWTC and be accepted for admission to Coffeyville Community College. An evaluation of the WWTC transcript will be completed by a CCC representative. Course hours may be applied to an associates degree pending evaluation and approval of CCC. Adult and high school students are required to complete 12 hours on campus before the hours can be applied.
