General Information

This program is designed to prepare students for a wide variety of jobs in the maintenance of buildings and grounds for residential, business, and industrial complexes. Students will study lawn care, equipment operations and maintenance and chemical use and safety.

Students will gain experience working with equipment such as a tractor with a front-end loader; woodworking equipment including power saws and drill presses; lawn equipment including an industrial lawn mower, weedeater, and edger; and industrial floor buffers and upright and canister vacuum cleaners.

Custodial practices will cover techniques in cleaning floors, walls, furniture and fixtures. The curriculum also instructs students in basic electricity, woodworking, welding and small engine tune up.

How would you answer this question? Employers want to know what you have to offer them. Students completing this program can answer this question with confidence and expand their career opportunities. There is a need for qualified technicians in Custodial Practices, Maintenance, Equipment Maintenance, and Lawn and Ground Maintenance - jobs that pay well with excellent opportunities for professional and financial growth. High school students have priority in being admitted to this program and normally attend during the junior and senior year. Students will be given the opportunity to return for an additional year to specialize in a particular skill. Adult students are admitted on a space available basis.

Student Organization

SkillsUSA, is a service organization for high school and adult students of industrial programs. Skills USA provides opportunities for students to enhance their personal and leadership qualities through individual and group projects and through skill competitions which are held on local, state and national levels.
