General Information

Advancing technology creates a demand for employees with good math, reading and communication skills. WWTC assists students in meeting these needs through the Academic Center. In addition, the Academic Center is an information resource for research materials and career search information. The center also serves as the testing site for pre-entrance screening and assessment.

ACT Study Guide

The American College Test is required of all students before they enter college. The Academic Center has a computerized tutorial that will help prepare students to take this test.

Assessment

All full-time students will be assessed during the first quarter. The test evaluates the students basics skills and provides valuable information which determines if the students need to upgrade particular skills in areas such as reading, writing, math, etc.

Career Ability Testing

The Career Ability Placement Survey provides you with information about your abilities to help you in career planning. The CAPS is a series of tests which will help you understand some of your potential strengths. It provides a prediction of success in specific careers.

Career Search

This program allows students to research a career on an individual basis. The students can choose a wide variety of careers and explore them through computer enhanced-information.

Employability Skills

The Academic Center assists students in improving their employability skills. Topics include interviewing, appearance, and resume writing.

Entrance Screening

The adult medical courses at WWTC require a pre-entrance screening test to reveal basic skills necessary for enrollment in the medical programs.

GED Preparation

The center offers General Education Development classes for individuals who did not complete high school and would like to obtain a GED certificate. The center will evaluate the individuals basic skills to determine what skill areas need improvement. Then the Academic Center will develop an individualized plan of study which will help prepare the person to take the GED test.

Learning Styles Inventory

Each student has a specific way in which he or she learns best. This inventory determines if the student learns best through auditory, visual, tactile, or a combination of these learning styles.

Upgrading of Basic Skills

When a student improves his or her basic skills, it has a positive effect on their vocational-technical studies. Improvement in the basic skills also makes the student a more desirable employee. The Academic Center concentrates on enhancement in the following areas: Reading, Language, Math, and Writing Skills.
